Pre-requisites:  Candidates must hold a  City & Guilds Certificate of Competence for Chainsaw Maintenance & Cross-cutting, Felling  & Processing Trees up to 380mm, Basic Tree Climbing & Aerial Rescue or equivalent Lantra Awards qualification.  Learners must be physically fit and not suffering from vertigo or similar conditions or on medication that could affect your safety.

This course is suitable if you are already experienced in climbing trees using work positioning systems and also are experienced in chainsaw use, including felling small trees up to 380mm. you will gain the knowledge, skills and understanding to carry out aerial cutting of trees with a chainsaw.

​

This course is for people who are already working in, or are looking to work in, one of the following industries:​

  • Forestry

  • Woodland industries

  • Local authorities​

Course sessions:​

  • HSE legislation and safety guidelines

  • Tree climbing equipment

  • Visual tree inspection and anchor points

  • Use of flip-line and climbing irons (spikes)

  • Aerial rescue planning

  • Aerial rescue methods

Certification: 

This course culminates in an independent assessment for a Level 3 Lantra Award in Aerial Cutting of Trees with a Chainsaw Using Free-fall Techniques.
